Veterinarian
Dr. James Woodley
Texas native and longtime local, Dr. James Woodley grew up just a few miles from his stomping grounds of today. After a childhood on his family’s farm and ranch, he graduated from Bellville High School and made a break for good ol’ College Station; all of 60 miles from home. He kept his stint away from home brief as he focused on undergrad immediately followed by vet school. He received his degrees and hightailed it back to his roots to begin practicing as an almost solely large animal vet in Sealy.
About me
After fewer months than can be counted on ones fingers and toes, he opened his own practice in Hempstead. He later opened his second practice just up the road, in Waller.
Background & Experience
Today, Dr. Woodley has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 50 years! Not bad for our hometown boy who’s childhood ambition was to help animals and their people. It’s no surprise that one of our most experienced and seasoned vets had served as the President of the Brazos Valley Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Director of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association.
Upon meeting James, you’ll find his passion for animals is only rivaled by his desire to be efficient and precise. When you’ve spent as much time tending to huge herds of cattle or deer, you’re inclined to find and stick with what works to get everything taken care of quickly before the bunch gets too rowdy. James knows the drill and, “Sometimes, patience is a waste of time.”
Over the course of his career, he’s nurtured and built a fantastic team of veterinary professionals. (Y’all. They really are the most wonderful and dedicated crew for miles around.) While he still tends to a few large animal herds on the outskirts of town, the practice has mostly evolved to focus on small animals these days.
Incredibly humble and modest, James strives to be a resource for his communities. Some of our favorite traits are his sense of humor and willingness to pitch in. Quick with a joke and even faster to lend a hand, James often volunteers to drop medications off to a client on his way home. (Always chasing efficiency!)
Though he considers himself a Jack of all trades but a master of none, we beg to differ. AND! Word on the street is that he’s quite the cook! We’re trying to figure out how to get a standing dinner invitation.
James lives by the old adage of treating others how you want to be treated. He is always up for meeting new people, learning, and taking on new adventures. (He’s also always up for a good buffet!)
We are so thrilled to have his wealth of knowledge and expertise in the Neighborhood and can’t wait to introduce you to him and his phenomenal crew!
