Abstract image featuring a large red diamond shape in the center, surrounded by irregular shapes in shades of blue and orange with subtle gradients, much like the intricate patterns a veterinarian might observe in an animal's unique markings, all set against a contrasting black outline.
An older man with white hair, wearing glasses and a dark button-up shirt with embroidered text stands outside by a tree. As a veterinarian, he gazes at the camera with a neutral expression. The greenery and blurred background hint at his dedication to nature's well-being.

Veterinarian

Dr. Kenneth Bockhorn

Dr. Kenneth Bockhorn is a man of few words when it comes to talking about himself, but get him going about animals and he could school even the most seasoned animal lover.

About me

Ken (known around the clinic as “KB”) grew up with a veterinarian for a father. He watched his dad nurture life into animals and knew that was his calling too. He followed in those footsteps as he had always been convinced that a desk job wasn’t in his future. At least not one he was interested in entertaining anyway.

Ken was raised in Brenham and stayed close to home for his undergrad at Blinn College. A hop, skip and a jump took him to Texas A&M for vet school. After graduating, he headed back home to Brenham.

Background & Experience

Originally, Ken started in a mixed animal practice and stayed for more than 30 years. After running around in the same circles and rubbing elbows with other local vets, Ken met Dr. James Woodley and decided it was time for a change. While he excelled in large and mixed animal practices, small animals truly have KB’s heart. He loves giving pets a chance to a better life after trauma. (Especially orthopedics and reconstructive surgeries.) He understands that pets are part of our families and does everything in his power to offer the best care at affordable prices so clients aren’t forced into painful decisions based on cost. (Anyone else see the foreshadowing about how this leads him to NVC….?)

Today, this father of four and grandfather to seven (they call him K-Paw!),has a heart the size of Texas for his family, animals and his hometown. His desk is littered with drawings and cards and notes from his kids and community members. He was even voted “Favorite Vet in Brenham” a few years ago! He has served as the President and Vice President of the Brazos Valley Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Bluebonnet Veterinary Medical Association.

When his lab coat is hung up and the grandkids are off hunting mischief, you can find Ken knee-deep in dirt. He’s quite the gardener and uses his green thumb to grow citrus trees and pretty much any flowering plants, especially roses. If he’s not in the garden, he’s probably gone fishin’.

Ken’s a firm believer in abiding by the mentality of treating others how you want to be treated. His heart for those who have been dealt a rough hand is evident in just a few minutes of talking to him. It’s also pretty spectacular to watch his face light up as kids come in to find their pets in better shape than when they last saw them.

We are happy to have Dr. Bockhorn on the NVC team and know that watching his heart swell with pride for his profession will never get old. And that maybe one day, he’ll share his Meyer lemon or orange haul with us!
