Veterinarian
Dr. Katherine Perkins
Dr. Katherine Perkins joined the NVC team in November 2024, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep passion for veterinary medicine. Originally from Boerne, Texas, Dr. Perkins earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in Animal Science and Poultry Science, followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, all from Texas A&M University. She has been immersed in veterinary medicine for 22 years, beginning her career as a high school student working for a local vet and officially practicing since 2015.
About me
Her journey in veterinary medicine has taken her across the country. After veterinary school, she spent two years in rural Idaho focusing on dairy production medicine before transitioning to companion animal medicine in Denver for seven years. However, the fast-paced city life led her to return to her Texas roots, where she found the small-town community she had been missing at NVC.
Dr. Perkins’ favorite part of emergency veterinary medicine is the humanity of it—the privilege of helping people and their pets during critical moments. She has a particular interest in neurology cases, which she finds endlessly fascinating and full of learning opportunities.
Background & Experience
Outside of work, Dr. Perkins enjoys an active lifestyle, including weight lifting, hiking, kayaking, and swimming. She’s also a devoted true crime fan and spends quality time with her two beloved corgis. When she’s not working, her Sundays often include a mix of faith, productivity, relaxation, and dog walks.
Dr. Perkins is passionate about several causes, including domestic violence victim advocacy, controlling the pet population, supporting sobriety and recovery programs, and extending veterinary care to underserved communities. Her personal motto, “Speak for those who are voiceless,” underscores her commitment to making a difference for both animals and people.
When asked for the best advice she’s ever received, Dr. Perkins credits her mother: “Never depend on anybody but yourself because the world will constantly let you down.” That resilience and independence have shaped her into the compassionate, dedicated veterinarian she is today.
Dr. Perkins is thrilled to be part of NVC and looks forward to serving the community she now calls home.
