Soft tissue surgery for dogs and cats.

Abstract geometric design featuring triangular shapes in blue and orange, boldly outlined, akin to a vet's precision in mapping the complex anatomy of animals.

Soft Tissue Conditions

In addition to our routine surgical services, our veterinarians can treat soft tissue conditions with a wide range of complex surgeries that require skilled surgical techniques, advanced training, and specialized equipment.

Often, these surgeries are necessary for the pet’s quality of life or their survival. In addition to our standard pre-anesthetic safety requirements, most pets receive diagnostic imaging (e.g., X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, or fluoroscopy), so the veterinarian can plan the surgery and anticipate any potential complications.

A playful dog and a relaxed cat lie next to each other on a light-colored surface. The dog, with its tongue out, seems ready for the vet, while the cat lounges on its back, gazing comfortably at the camera.

Soft Tissue Surgery FAQs

As with every anesthetic procedure, we take exceptional precautions to ensure your pet stays safe before, during, and after the event. All pets receive an intravenous (IV) catheter and intubation, and continuous IV fluids to support their blood pressure, maintain hydration, and expand blood volume during surgery. Depending on the procedure, additional safety measures may include a blood transfusion, pre-oxygenation, or a continuous rate infusion (CRI) of pain medication.

Most advanced soft tissue surgeries require postoperative monitoring for one or two nights. During this time your pet will remain in our recovery ward, where they will be closely observed and treated on schedule until the veterinarian determines they are ready to be discharged.

Each step in our surgical protocol balances your pet’s present and future needs—meaning that each intentional step during surgery contributes to a smooth and fast recovery. These carefully designed steps include:

  • State-of-the-art facilities — Maintaining sterility and cleanliness reduces the risk for post-operative complications.
  • Pain medication — Preemptively addressing pain prevents a damaging cycle known as wind-up, which can slow healing.
  • Delicate techniques — Minimally invasive techniques and delicate tissue handling can prevent unnecessary trauma and speed recovery.
  • Considerate emotional approach — We strive to create a low-stress atmosphere for pets and provide anti-anxiety medications as necessary to prevent pet fear and anxiety. Emotional distress can result in physical trauma, increase release of stress hormones, and delay healing.
Complex surgeries require a knowledgeable team with skilled hands. Contact Neighborhood Veterinary Centers to schedule a surgical consultation, and to learn how we provide unparalleled surgical care for your four-legged companion.
